The waves represent, in eastern religions, eternal movement, transformation, dynamism and therefore, the incessant dualism between being and becoming. They are linked to the concept of emptiness not as negativity and nihilism, but, on the contrary, as potentiality and energy generating novelty: the sea, in fact, continually produces new waves.

However, these waves, although deriving from the sea, do not separate from it, but return to it without leaving a trace and therefore the sea, although continually transforming, always remains the same.
Just as the waves are part of a unitary whole which is the sea, so every element of nature is part of the universe, it derives from it and returns to it. Just as there are no perfect, complete, permanent waves, so in nature everything is imperfect, unfinished and transitory: the beauty of the universe consists in its eternal becoming.
The waves, depending on their direction, represent the feminine (yin) or masculine (yang) principle and together represent the unity of everything with its creative power. Finally, with their continuous undertow, they symbolize the passage of time.
