Descrizione
Antique Silver Pendant with Kali Deity – MUNGARIYA. A pendant made of antique silver (approx. 40 – 50 years old) and depicting Kali. A handcrafted pendant of traditional Indian jewelry ideal for men and women.
Kali is indicated as a symbol of darkness but, in reality, she is a beneficent and terrifying goddess at the same time. In fact, she has several attributes with specific meanings and in classical iconography she is represented with four arms, covered in blood and adorned with a necklace of skulls and a belt of snakes.
Kali’s origins can be traced back to the tribal and mountain cultures of South Asia that were gradually assimilated and transformed, though never fully domesticated, by Sanskrit traditions. Kali makes her first major appearance in the Devi Mahatmya, an ancient Sanskrit philosophical text.
Kali’s iconography, cult, and mythology commonly associate her not only with death, but also with sexuality, violence, and, paradoxically, maternal love.
