JAPAMALA or the garland (màlà) of whispered repetition (japa), both expressions derive from Sanskrit.
The pendant depicts Shiva and is an original antique collected by us during our travels in rural India.
These rosaries are used for the ritual repetition of prayers (mantras) in Hindu, Buddhist and Muslim cultures. In Italian the word rosary derives from the ancient custom of offering a garland of roses to the Virgin Mary, where each flower symbolized a prayer to the Madonna.
